Ohio lawmakers to hold hearing on Medicaid future

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio lawmakers will hold a hearing next week looking at ways to help people move off Medicaid and into private health care plans.

The hearing will feature briefings on the status of Medicaid in Ohio from directors of Gov. John Kasich’s offices of Health Transformation and Medicaid.

The Healthier Ohio Working Group meeting Tuesday consists of members of both parties from the GOP-controlled House Finance and Appropriations Committee.

GOP lawmakers say the group will focus on Medicaid patients who have the most potential to move off Medicaid and access private health care.

Republican lawmakers have rejected Kasich’s proposal to use federal dollars to expand Medicaid in Ohio but promised to keep attention focused on the issue.
