Western Pa. officer killed in crash during chase

NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) — State police say a woman who crashed into a western Pennsylvania police cruiser killing one officer inside told investigators she “did something stupid” and didn’t stop for police because her license was suspended.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (http://bit.ly/YjgAel ) first reported 25-year-old Kylee Barletto’s statements, which are contained in a criminal complaint. She’s charged with manslaughter and other crimes for the crash that killed Shenango Township Officer William J. “Jerry” McCarthy IV on Thursday night.

The complaint says that happened when the cruiser the officer was in was broadsided by Barletto’s car, which was being chased by New Castle city police. State police are investigating because the case involves police from two local departments, about 45 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.

Court records don’t list an attorney for Barletto.
