Youngstown State University Board of Trustees welcomed its third and final presidential candidate to town Tuesday.
Attorney William Decatur joined trustees for a dinner meeting at the Holiday Inn in Boardman.
Decatur is a northeast Ohio native, born in Euclid. He is currently executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of Rhode Island School of Design. He previously served as senior vice president for finance and administration at Ohio University.
Decatur said it was his time as interim president at the University of Toledo that made him jump at the chance to take over as president of YSU.
“I’ve watched Youngstown a long time. It has grown. It’s now designated by the state as an urban research university, and I think this is a tremendous opportunity here,” said Decatur. “Youngstown State makes a real difference in this community, in the lives of the students and in the entire community.”
Decatur will be on campus Wednesday for a series of open forum discussions with faculty, students and community members.
Trustees could make a decision as early as Friday on which of the three finalists will be the next president of YSU.
