Hundreds of women packed the Covelli Centre Thursday for the 10th annual Women’s Heart Day.
The event has served more than 4,700 women by offering free health screenings, blood pressure checks and much more.
Organizers said it’s important to have something like this for women who often put their health on the back burner.
A total of 500 women had lab work done at the event.
“Women take care of everybody else. Women take care of their husbands, their kids, their parents, and they never take the time,” said Charlene Pastore, co-chair Women’s Heart Day. “They always shelve what they need to do for themselves. Today is a day for them to come and relax, have a good time, get some screenings done, learn more things about health care and how to improve health.”
Other heart healthy programs at the event included dancing and a healthy cooking demonstration.
