A New Brighton man committed suicide Friday by walking in front of a semi truck on state Route 376 in Pulaski Township.

David W. Nye, 46, of 759 Route 68, stepped in front of a semi truck at 5:30 a.m. trying to commit suicide, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Reports said Nye was staying at a home on Old Pulaski Road when PSP said he walked through a wooded area and stood in front of a truck traveling eastbound.

The driver swerved to miss him, but because it was still dark, struck the man with his front bumper. Nye died at the scene, reports said.

For a time, I-376 was shut down in both directions, but the stretch between state Route 208 and Mitchell Road is now open.
