Police Forced to Put Down Dog

Hermitage police shot and killed a loose dog they were trying to catch after repeated complaints about the dog.

Police said this is the seventh time in less than a year they’ve responded to the neighborhood of Wick Avenue for an incident involving the dog.

Officers tried to corral the boxer late Friday night, but said the dog was acting aggressively toward neighbors and police.

One officer feared the dog would attack, and while backing up, discharged their gun, hitting the dog, which later died.

Officers said they tried to get a hold of someone with the Shenango Valley Animal Shelter.
