State police in Mercer County have charged a Franklin man with murder in connection to a body found near a burning van in Mercer County in December.

Leroy Young, 45, was charged with first- and third-degree murder and other crimes in the death of David Dignall, 58, of Carlton.

Dignall’s body was found when crews responded to a vehicle fire at about 5:30 p.m. Dec. 20 in French Creek Township.

Troopers say Dignall was found outside the Ford Aerostar Van and was partially burned.

An autopsy later determined Dignall died of a single gunshot wound and police say they have now connected Young to the shooting, though they didn’t immediately say how.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for Young.
