Austintown police have arrested a man in connection with a house explosion Sunday evening.
Police said the suspect was arrested at a scrap dealer Tuesday morning after a witness gave a description of a car that was near the home at 2196 S. Turner Road earlier in the day. Firefighters and police believe the man was stealing copper wire from the vacant home and cut a gas line.
A buildup of gas caused the house to explode and knocked the house off its foundation. The garage door also was blown out and several windows were missing.
Police won’t release the suspect’s name until his case is directly presented to the grand jury. However, police did say the suspect was out on bail from similar charges of arson and breaking and entering.
He is expected to be arraigned later this week on the new charges.
