Pop Art Painter Inspires Taft Students

A popular comic-book writer and artist made quite an impression on some local students Tuesday.

Chris Yambar paid a visit to Taft Elementary in Youngstown. The illustrator was invited to the school through the Scoutreach program.

Yambar works on “The Simpsons” comic book series as well as several of his own titles. He was also a Boy Scout growing up in Youngstown.

Yambar shared his talents with the kids and encouraged them to give scouting a chance.

“I think scouting offers opportunities for growth in ways for young men and women that nobody can match,” said Yambar. “I know it made a difference in my life. It gave me experiences that I still think about today.”

According to the Boy Scouts of America, the Scoutreach program is designed to give all youth the opportunity to join scouting regardless of their circumstances, neighborhood or ethnic background.
