Thousands of Pills Dropped Off at Disposal Event

People dropped off thousands of unwanted and unused prescription drugs during a drug disposal program in Warren on Wednesday.

Operation Empty Medicine Cabinet is a collaboration between the Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force and the Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board.

The event was held at the Trumbull-Geauga Solid Waste Management office on Enterprise Drive in Warren.  The drugs will be properly disposed of to make sure they don’t end up in the area’s drinking water or landfills.

This is the fifth year for the program, with more than 500,000 prescription drugs collected since its inception.

A TAG spokesman said more than 30,000 pills were collected Wednesday. Another collection is set Sept. 18.
