Howland defeated Boardman 4-2 Friday evening to advance to the Division One District Semi-finals in high school baseball.
The Spartans took the lead in the 2nd inning with two unearned runs.
The Tigers got on the board with a run in the 4th inning. In the 5th inning, Kurtis Kuszmaul hit an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.

In the 6th inning, Howland took the lead on Ryan Debiec’s single that scored Kyle Watson, putting the Tigers ahead 3-2. Later in the inning, John-Mark Weisman had an RBI base hit single, scoring Howland’s final run.
Tyler Spain paced Howland offensively with a 3-3 performance. Weisman finished the game 2-4 and Debiec went 2-3.
Jake Froats earned the win for Howland, pitching a complete game, allowing two runs, none earned, striking out two and walking one.
Howland advances to face top-seeded Aurora next Thursday, May 23 at Cene Park in Struthers. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
