The recycling division of Mahoning County has a new leader.
Commissioners appointed Lou Vega as the permanent head of the position on Friday at their regularly scheduled meeting.
Vega was named interim director when Mari Wren Pertrony stepped down.
Pertrony took over for Jim Petuch when he retired at the end of 2012.
Vega, who has been with the Green Team for 14 years, said he looks to take advantage of social media and web development to make sure the community is aware of what the recycling division does, among other challenges.
“We are looking to evaluate our existing program to see what’s working, what’s not, see how we can tweak it,” Vega said. “There’s going to be some small staff restructuring going on. As we move forward we are looking to and promoting our transparency.”
