Family and friends of a Berlin Township man who was injured in a farm accident tried to ease the burden of his mounting medical bills with a benefit dinner.

In March, Russell Marshall was grinding feed for his animals when his clothes got caught up in the machine. He lost his arm and is recovering from other serious injuries. His medical bills exceeded $1 million.

Russell couldn’t be at Sunday’s dinner, but sent a message of thanks to everyone, especially the first responders.

“My husband has said that he’s so grateful to Berlin Township Fire Department for everything that they have done. His exact words were, ‘They are my lifesavers’,” said Melissa Marshall, Russell’s wife.

The Marshalls want the community to know how grateful they are for all the support. Melissa Mashall insisted on serving at the benefit as a way to say thanks.
