1 killed, 4 hurt when fire van, taxi crash in Pa.

TOBYHANNA, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a taxi driver was killed and four firefighters were hurt when the cab crashed into a fire police van in northeastern Pennsylvania.

The accident happened around 11:15 a.m. Sunday in Coolbaugh Township. The Monroe County coroner says the taxi driver, 55-year-old Stroudsburg resident Michael West, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say West lost control and the taxi and slid into the path of the oncoming Coolbaugh Township fire police van. Four volunteer firefighters were taken to hospitals and officials say two were still in intensive care Sunday evening.

There were no passengers in the taxi at the time of the crash.
