Central Ohio defense attorney faces sex charges

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A central Ohio defense attorney arrested after a woman reported being fondled during a meeting at his office now faces multiple sexual assault charges.

An indictment filed Monday in Franklin County court accuses Columbus lawyer Javier Armengau (HAH’-vee-her ar-men-GOW’) of sexual crimes against five women dating to 1998. The 18-count indictment includes charges of kidnapping, gross sexual imposition, rape and sexual battery.

The case is being prosecuted by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. Spokeswoman Jill Del Greco says two of the alleged victims were former clients of Armengau, two were mothers of former clients and one was a former employee.

A police report says Armengau was arrested last month after forcibly fondling a woman and exposing himself.

Messages seeking comment were left with Armengau’s attorney.
