Girls Donate Blankets to Seniors

Girls from Girard Intermediate School gave up their recess all year to make tie blankets and donate them to various agencies and charities.

The girls went to Shepherd of the Valley in Niles Monday to give away the blankets and spend some time with the residents playing Bingo.

This year, the group made over 100 blankets, donating them to nursing homes, Hurricane Sandy victims, and nurseries.

The girls said they don’t mind giving up their recess to help others.

“I get to talk to my friends and hang out with them,” said blanket volunteer Morgan Rushen.

“It’s exciting because we took all of our effort to make those, and we then finally get to have one,” said blanket volunteer Emily Frasier.

Help from school and fundraising keeps the Tie Blanket Project going.
