The Cafaro Foundation announced Tuesday they awarded $49,000 in scholarships to local students. This is the largest annual amount ever awarded by the foundation.

Twenty students have been selected as recipients. Trustees of the Cafaro Foundation awarded the grants based on the student’s academic merit, while considering financial need and the recommendation of teachers and guidance counselors. A list of students and their awards are listed below.

The Cafaro Foundation was established in memory of William M. Cafaro, the founder of the real estate development and management company that bears his name in Youngstown.

Since its inception in 1996, the Cafaro Foundation has awarded millions of dollars in grants to organizations and individuals. The Youngstown-based Cafaro Company is one of America’s largest privately-held real estate development firms, managing more than 30-million square feet of property in 11 states.
