Austintown now has a new way to help resident keep cool this summer.

A ribbon cutting was held Wednesday at the Township Park for its new Splash Pad.

The area is basically a matted playground with water sprinklers.

The Park’s levy helped fund the $43,000 project that will officially open to the public this Friday.

“I expect a lot more people to be out here now,” said Austintown Township Park Supervisor Todd Shaffer. “There’s nothing like this too close to Austintown or in Mahoning County. I feel there’s going to be a lot of people coming out here, especially July, August when there’s 90 degree day.”

The splash pad will be available for play from noon to 7 p.m. every day through Labor Day.
