A 41-year-old man was shot in the leg and his girlfriend and her 3-year-old daughter were nearly shot late Thursday in Warren.

Reports said Marlon E. Jones, 41, of Red Fox Run Drive N.W., was shot in the right inner thigh at about 11 p.m. at 268 Ohio Ave. N.W.

Officers found Jones lying in a large pool of blood. Jones, reports said, was coherent and asked officers for water several times. He refused to tell officers who shot him, reports said.

He was taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital and transferred to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Jones’ girlfriend told police she and her daughter were sitting on a couch near the front window when two or three gunshots ripped through the window. She said Jones was sitting on the couch on the opposite side of the room.

The 22-year-old woman told police she grabbed her daughter and went to the ground. The woman told police the two have been together for about five years and that she is unsure of “what he does on the streets,” reports said.

She told officers he was feuding with someone during the last few weeks but was unsure of the person’s name.

Earlier in the day, a Warren man told police he was shot at by two men outside his apartment. Kendrick Smith, 35, told police he was walking outside his 527 Martin St. S.W. apartment in the Highland Homes apartment complex when someone he had “on-going problems with” started yelling at him from a car.

Smith said he had a long history with the man, including being shot at by the man and attacked by him several times.

Smith told police he tried to walk to his friend’s house when the man drove towards him in a black SUV. Smith said he walked back towards his apartment when the man fired five shots from a revolver and sped away.

A woman who saw the shooting told police she saw a man get out of the SUV and fire several shots before jumping back into the car.
