COCHRANTON, Pa. (AP) – A northwestern Pennsylvania man has been ordered to stand trial in the fatal shooting of his brother-in-law, a killing the victim’s widow says stemmed from a family property dispute.
That woman, Alice Dignall, is the sister of the suspect, 45-year-old Ralph Leroy Young, of Franklin, and was married to the victim, 58-year-old David Dignall, of Carlton.
The Meadville Tribune reports she testified at a preliminary hearing Thursday that Young disagreed with the Dignalls and other siblings about whether to sell their mother’s property to provide a nest egg for the woman.
State police in Mercer say Young shot Dignall in the back before setting Dignall’s van on fire on Dec. 20 in French Creek Township, about 75 miles north of Pittsburgh.
Young’s attorney says the case is circumstantial and has too many holes in it.
