Pa. woman charged in hit-and-run that killed teen

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Authorities in suburban Philadelphia say a motorist was drunk and reading a text message when she fatally struck a teenager in a hit-and-run accident.

Officials announced charges Friday against 31-year-old Sarah Ann Derstein of Lansdale. She is charged with homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol, and other offenses.

Authorities say Derstein killed 15-year-old Dennis Kee on April 26 as he walked along Route 309 in Hatfield with four friends. Another teen suffered a broken elbow.

Officials say Derstein fled the scene, then returned to talk with police. Authorities say her blood-alcohol level was .167, more than twice the legal limit for driving.

Derstein was arraigned Friday and unable to post bail. It was not immediately clear if she has an attorney.
