A local group raised awareness about Genetically Modified Organisms and the effect they have on the food you eat Saturday night.

Against All Odds Food Safety is a group that educates others about the negative environmental and health consequences these seeds can have.

In addition, to getting people to sign a petition to prevent these seeds from being spread, there was also live music and healthy cooking demonstrations.

The event was part of the Worldwide March Against Monsanto.

Monsanto is a chemical fertilizer seed company that event organizers blame for GMO’s.

“Now they’re in control of our food system and they’re producing the majority of the seeds that produce the food in America, and it’s very dangerous what they’re doing. They have high levels of glysophate in the fields, a lot of their products have already been linked to many various health risks, health diseases,” said Geoffrey Johnson.

The free event took place at Centennial Park in Salem.
