Ohio officials offer cemetery complaint reminder

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — State officials are advising Ohioans of how to issue complaints against cemeteries as many prepare to pay their respects at gravesites over the Memorial Day weekend.

The director of the Ohio Department of Commerce says people should first bring their concerns to the attention of the cemetery’s management.

Director Andre Porter says if the issue can’t be resolve, Ohioans can file a complaint with a state commission that oversees matters involving registered cemeteries.

The Ohio Cemetery Dispute Resolution Commission addresses complaints that include a cemetery’s maintenance and management. They also work to resolve problems related to sales issues, such as the purchase of interment rights, burial containers, markers or other items.

Those seeking additional information can call the Department of Commerce at 614-466-4100.
