Police: Knife-wielding man shot, killed in Philly

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police say officers shot and killed a man armed with a butcher knife in northeast Philadelphia, the fourth police-involved shooting in as many days and the third one to result in the death of a suspect.

Lt. John Stanford said officers were called to the Oxford Circle section of the city at about 7 a.m. Saturday and found the man in the middle of the street “with knife in hand.” He says pepper spray failed to deter the man and the officers fired after he charged them. He was later pronounced dead at Aria Health Torresdale Hospital.

Philadelphia officers shot and killed two armed suspects Wednesday night after pursuits in west and north Philadelphia. Less than 24 hours later, police shot and wounded another man in north Philadelphia.
