Walk-Off Win for LaBrae

Freshman Kasey Rininger drove in the game winning run for the Vikings as they advance to the Regional Tournament.

Rininger came up huge on the day with two RBI singles and the game winning walk off single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

With one out and senior Jessica Buck on second, Rininger lined one into right field allowing Buck to come in and score the game winning run.

LaBrae took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Lauren Rutherford found the gap in right center field bringing Skyler Gilanyi around to score.

Champion would bounce right back. After scoring on an error in the top of the third, sophomore Haylee Gardiner gave the Lady Flashes a 2-1 lead when her blooper into right center field scored Amber Ricci.

The Vikings’ Rininger would get her first RBI in the bottom of the third to tie the game at two. The freshman ground a ball into right field where Champion’s Gardner fielded the ball and came up throwing, but Somer McCoy slid in safe under the tag.

Champion took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning when Ricci hit the ball to the fence, giving her a stand-up double and scored Mackenzie Kiser on the play.

In the bottom of the fifth, Buck tied the game up at three with a line drive to left field.

The Vikings defeated the two-time state champs, 4-3, to advance to the Regional Tournament. LaBrae will take on Ursuline, Thursday, May 30 at Washington High School. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
