A local bank donated $10,000 to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Mahoning Valley.

Home Savings presented the group a check on Tuesday.

Big Brothers Big Sisters will use the money for their high school mentoring program that pairs sophomores, juniors and seniors with elementary school students in the same district.  The five districts include Austintown, Sebring, Mcdonald, Lordstown and Cortland.

“Statistically it has proven successful providing a friend to a child who needs one makes a difference in the life of that child, whether it’s a high schooler or an adult,” said Brian Higgins of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Mahoning Valley. “
