Suspected Arrested in Cleveland Playground Shooting

Arrest

CLEVELAND (AP) – Police have arrested a suspect in the wounding of a 12-year-old girl shot on a Cleveland playground over the weekend.

Cleveland police identified the suspect as Russell James, 20, and said the booking charge was pending. He was arrested without incident Tuesday in Cleveland Heights on a felonious assault warrant issued in Cleveland Municipal Court.

Police say Toni Landers was shot once in the chest Sunday at a busy park on Cleveland’s east side. They say she apparently was caught in the crossfire as several men started shooting at each other.

Toni had surgery Sunday, and her family says she will be OK.

No attorney for the suspect was listed in the Municipal Court docket.
