#5 Mathews (22-7) vs. Cuyahoga Heights (28-2)

Road to the Regionals
District Final – Mathews 3 Bristol 0
District Semifinal – Mathews 1 Windham 0
Sectional Final – Mathews 8 Badger 2

After splitting both contests with Bristol during the regular season, the Lady Mustangs got the one that counted the most – a 3-0 victory in the District Championship. Sophomore Cheyenne Eggens pitched a one-hit shutout which included 12 strikeouts. The previous game against Windham, #99 fanned 16 batters. By virtue of their victory, Mathews has now won four consecutive district crowns.

Cuyahoga Heights
District Final – Cuyahoga Heights 4 Mapleton 0
District Semifinal – Cuyahoga Heights 12 Lake Center Christian 1, 5 innings
Sectional Final – Cuyahoga Heights 21 Cleveland VASJ 0

The Lady Redskins topped their first two playoff opponents by a combined score of 33-1. However, the Mapleton game proved to be a bit more competitive. Cuyahoga Heights’ Meredith Chopka, a transfer from Woodridge, threw a two-hitter to propel the ‘Skins to the Regionals. Chopka struck out 12 opponents. Lauren Goetz went 3 for 4 while belting her 5th homerun of the season.

Winner to play in the Regional Championship on June 1 at noon against the winner of Jackson-Milton/Col. Crawford
