Sister Charlotte Italiano, principal of the Ursuline Preschool and Kindergarten, was one of seven teachers from the Youngtown Catholic Diocese who received a Golden Apple award at a ceremony held last week at the Youngstown Country Club.

Sister Charlotte said she was surprised she won because the competition is very high.

“We’ve got wonderful principals in the diocese,” she said.

She received a standing ovation from the crowd after accepting the award. She has been teaching for 61 years and has taught at every level except high school. She has spent 40 years as a principal.
