Sentence due in NY ambassador plot case

NEW YORK (AP) — A Texas man who admits plotting to kill Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States is facing sentencing.

Manssor Arbabsiar is due in federal court in Manhattan on Thursday.

The 58-year-old Arbabsiar pleaded guilty last year to charges accusing him of going to Mexico at the direction of the Iranian military in 2011 to arrange the assassination attempt. The plot never went any further.

Prosecutors want a judge to give Arbabsiar a 25-year sentence.

Defense attorneys say he suffers from a mental disorder that clouded his judgment. They argue the sentence should be no more than 10 years.
