Nelson hangs on for HBO win

Willie Nelson, trained by Southside Boxing owner Jack Loew, earned a unanimous decision over Luciano Cuello Friday night at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut.

Nelson was in control early until he was cut over his right eye in the third round.

In the seventh round, Cuello picked up some momentum with an impressive performance.

After gutting out a tough eighth and ninth round, Nelson had to hang on in the tenth before leaving the fight’s outcome in the hands of the judges.

According to ESPN, Willie Nelson landed 231 punches and threw 649. Cuello landed 198 of his 553 punches thrown.

Nelson improves to 21-1 in his career.
