Police charge NE Ohio man in girlfriend’s death

ELYRIA, Ohio (AP) — A northeast Ohio man has been charged in the death of his live-in girlfriend after the woman’s body was found in their Elyria apartment covered in cuts and abrasions.

The Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reported Saturday (http://bit.ly/14eLsLP ) that police found 26-year-old Lauren Moore dead in a back bedroom of her apartment Thursday night. The apartment was in disarray and police determined Moore did not die of natural causes.

The newspaper reported authorities have charged Vernon Shallenberger, 27, with one count of murder.

Lorain County Coroner Stephen Evans said Moore died of blunt force trauma to her head and neck. He said police had the object with which the blows were allegedly delivered.

A relative of Shallenberger’s reached by phone Saturday said the family had no comment.
