Boardman Baptist Church held a ground-breaking ceremony Sunday to kick-off a new project.
The church is building an addition to the current facility on Shields Road. At twice the size of the current church building, the new 10,000 square foot building will house the sanctuary, choir room and several offices.
“We’re very happy that we could have this occasion,” said Pastor Dennis Massie. “This church has a heritage of being a good, strong, bible preaching Baptist church in the area. It’s just the right time to do this. We’re happy that we can be here to be of service.”
The project will cost about $1 million. The church was able to raise most of the funds over the past 13 years.
Builders from Pennsylvania and New York are constructing the new facility.
“The church comes in and assists and helps out and builds, plus the outside people that they have to get,” said Dale Murphy, Associate builder, Baptist Church Planters of Ohio.
The church is hoping the new building will be finished and open by September of 2014.
