Robber kills 2, self in Ohio gun theft attempt

ORIENT, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in Ohio say a man has shot and killed two people then himself after an apparent robbery attempt in Pickaway County.

The county sheriff says suspect Michael Melrose knew the man and woman found bound and shot in their Orient home Saturday and had performed odd jobs for them.

Authorities say Melrose was fleeing the residence around 10 p.m. Saturday with an armful of long guns when county sheriff’s deputies arrived and ordered him to drop the weapons. Melrose turned a pistol from the back of his waist and shot himself.

Inside the home, a male victim was found bound and alive suffering from gunshot wounds. He died on the way to the hospital.

The body of a female victim, partially bound with multiple gunshot wounds, was also recovered.
