Prosecutors allege W. Pa. sheriff violated bond

BEAVER, Pa. (AP) — Authorities are asking a judge to revoke or modify the bail of a western Pennsylvania sheriff who’s accused of threatening people.

Prosecutor Laurel Brandstetter says in court papers filed last week that 66-year-old Sheriff George David violated the conditions of his $50,000 unsecured bond. Brandstetter didn’t provide details of the alleged violations, but David was ordered to have no contact with witnesses or victims in the case.

David was arrested in March on charges he threatened to cut a political campaign worker’s hands off and shoot an online news reporter. Authorities say the charges stem from encounters since November 2011.

David denies the charges and remains in office because county officials are powerless to remove him and state legislators haven’t tried to.
