Trial opens for Pa. man in neighbor’s slaying

YORK, Pa. (AP) — Trial has begun in central Pennsylvania for a man charged in the stabbing death of a woman who lived next-door to him.

Thirty-year-old Jovon Jones of York is charged in York County in the May 16 death of 42-year-old Alesia Martin, who was stabbed about 40 times.

Authorities say the victim’s cellphone was found hidden in his bedroom closet along with blood on his clothing and on a bucket and mop.

Tim Barker, chief deputy prosecutor, told jurors Monday that the killer did his best to clean up the bloody crime scene.

Defense attorney Jim Rader said during his opening statement that a number of people went through his client’s home on the day the body was found, and any blood could have come from one of them.
