Chaney VPA Middle School students had the chance to learn from a professional dancer on Monday.

Fabian Barnes, the Founder and Artistic Director of the Dance Institute of Washington, conducted four Master classes with VPA students and lectured about dance and his journey through life.

Barnes said his goal is to encourage young dancers trying to make it in a tough field.

Barnes is one of the first instructors brought in for the new Performing Arts program at Chaney.

“Anything is possible with hard work and determination and that there are other things besides basketball and rap music,” he said. “There are possibilities for other careers in the performing arts and other endeavors in life.”
