Witness to fatal raid: I warned cops about kids

DETROIT (AP) — A man rounding up his puppies late at night says he warned Detroit police that children were inside a house they were about to raid in a hunt for a murder suspect that left a 7-year-old girl dead.

Mark Robinson testified Wednesday that officers involved in the raid forced him to the ground outside the house. Aiyana Stanley-Jones was accidentally shot and killed during the raid.

Detroit Officer Joseph Weekley is on trial for involuntary manslaughter in Aiyana’s death. Authorities say he failed to safely handle his submachine gun when he entered the home in May 2010.

Robinson says a stun grenade used to confuse people in the house sounded like a bomb. He says he heard a gunshot and a woman scream, “Y’all killed my baby.”
