Emergency crews help 2 Allegheny River kayakers

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Authorities say emergency crews helped two kayakers who got into trouble near Pittsburgh.

Officials say the men lost their paddles on the Allegheny River early Wednesday morning and struggled to make it to shore about 20 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. Township police had called for river rescue units around midnight when an empty kayak was found.

One kayaker was taken to Allegheny Valley Hospital as a precaution, while the other was examined for possible hypothermia.
