Feds Charge Custom Stone and Tile Owners

A Mercer County couple has been charged with defrauding the Internal Revenue Service.

Barbara Graven and Eric Graven, owners of Custom Stone and Tile in Hermitage, are charged with 10 counts of conspiracy, making a false tax return and aiding and assisting the making of a false tax return.

According to the federal indictment released Wednesday, the couple conspired with each other and others to defraud the IRS by intentionally failing to report cash earnings of the business in 2005 through 2008.

If convicted, the couple could receive a maximum sentence of 23 years in prison and a fine of $1.7 million.

In August of 2008, federal agents raided Custom Stone and Tile on Broadway Road in Hermitage. Boxes and crates of papers and materials were taken from the building.

At the time, Eric Graven said he was taken by surprise when agents raided the business and didn’t know why they were there. He said he was cooperating with the authorities.
