Woman Graduates from Mission Program

A graduation celebration was held Wednesday at the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley for a woman that spent nearly year in a program there.

Gigi Oatman, a veteran, graduated from the Discipleship Academy. She will now head to Phoenix to study to be a mental health counselor in a homeless shelter. The mission helped find her a grant to pay for her training.

The mission offers the program for residents to meet goals, including courses on financial management, resume writing, and mock job interviews.

“The learning center part of the academy actually gave me faith in myself, that I could back to school,” Oatman said. “I had no faith in myself at the age of 54 that I could do it.”
