The Division III State Semifinals turned out to be a pitcher’s duel between Ursuline ace Sam Donko and undefeated Wheelersburg starter Derek Moore.

Donko did not allow a run until the 8th inning, finishing with six strikeouts and 10 hits.

Moore, who has never lost a game in his high school career, kept his perfect record (35-0) intact by throwing 7 and 1/3 scoreless innings.

Ursuline fell behind in the top of the 8th when Ben Arnold doubled in the game’s first run. Then Derek Moore added another with an RBI single, giving the Pirates a 2-0 advantage.

The Irish had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the 8th, but Sam Donko flied out and Harry Finelli struck out to end the game.

Ursuline falls in the State Semifinals, 2-0, and finishes the season with 24 wins and three losses.
