Boardman Teacher Up for a Grammy

The director of bands at Boardman High School is up for a Grammy award.

Tom Ruggieri is a finalist for the Music Educator award. This is the first year for the new category.

The award recognizes those who have made a significant and lasting contributions to music education and maintain a superior curriculum in their schools.

Nationwide, 217 music teachers were selected from 30,000 nominations. Ruggieri received four nominations.

“It’s very humble to find out people think of you like this,” said Ruggieri. “Just to be nominated, it’s a reason for me to give thanks once again for the gifts that I have.”

The Music Educator award winner will be flown to Los Angeles next year to accept the award, attend the Grammys and receive $10,000.
