An Austintown man is facing felony charges for trying to set fire to his home with enough oxygen and paint thinner to make the home explode.

Steve J. Sodomora, 57, of 5123 Oakcrest Dr., is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Mahoning County Austintown Area Court on second-degree felony aggravated arson charges that carry an eight-year maximum prison sentence.

Reports said Sodomora set fire to a rug in his home on Sunday. Firefighters found smoke coming from the home when they arrived at about 1 a.m.

Reports said a “large amount of paint thinner and oxygen breathing supplies” were found inside the home.  Fire investigators told police there was enough paint thinner the in home to blow up the house.

Officers noted they responded to several threats Sodomora made against others in the last two weeks and that he had been increasingly aggressive.
