Youngstown’s gay community is holding its own festival this weekend downtown.

The 5th annual Youngstown Pride Festival started this evening on the east end of Federal Street. The street is lined with vendors, some of which had information pertaining to the gay lifestyle.

Organizers said this is a chance to show the city that Youngstown has a gay population.

“One of the things is about us coming out of the closet to become more visible because people in Youngstown don’t tend to realize that there are gay people amongst them living there lives everyday,” said Anita Davis, who works with the festival.

A commitment ceremony will be held Saturday morning at 10:30, followed by a parade at noon.  The festival ends at 11 p.m.
