Pa. man, stepmom sentenced in neighbor’s death

WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) — A former police officer and his stepmother are going to prison for the July 2011 killing of a 92-year-old western Pennsylvania woman.

A Washington County judge sentenced David James McClelland on Thursday to life without parole in connection with the death of Evelyn Stepko of Coal Center. He was convicted of second-degree murder in April.

His father, David Allan McClelland, previously pleaded guilty to robbing and killing Stepko in her home and was sentenced in October to life without parole.

Prosecutors say the elder McClelland stole about $215,000 from Stepko over several years before her murder, and his wife and son knew about it.

David Allan McClelland’s wife, Diane McClelland, was sentenced with her stepson Thursday. She’ll spend 24 1/2 to 49 years in prison for conspiracy in the killing.
