A Newton Falls couple has died following an accident on Interstate 76 in North Jackson Saturday.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Kenneth Stoner, 87, and Dolores Stoner, 83, died when the car they were back seat passengers in was hit from behind. The accident happened around 3 p.m. on I-76 about a mile west of the split with Interstate 80.

The car, driven by Kenneth D. Stoner, 60, of Ravenna was stopped in traffic waiting to enter a construction zone. An SUV driven by Lynn Berger, 35, of Cranberry Township was unable to stop in time and struck the Stoner’s vehicle.

Berger sustained minor injuries. Kenneth D. Stoner and his front seat passenger, Paula Stoner, 60, were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.
