SRU’s Trivino Taken in 11th by A’s

The Oakland A’s began the third day of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft by selecting Slippery Rock University’s right handed pitcher Lou Trivino with their eleventh round selection (341st pick). Number 37 is a high school graduate of Upper Bucks Christian in Greenlane, Pennsylvania.

Trivino posted a quality start in each of his twelve starts but one. Lou posted a 1.83 ERA with a 7-5 mark on the hill in 83 2/3 innings of work. Trivino struck out 92 batters compared to only 18 walks and went coast to coast in 8 of his starts.

The A’s pick marks the first time since 2000 (Tom Sullivan and Greg Stokes) that a Rock pitcher has been taken in the MLB Draft. Also, this is the earliest a SRU player has been taken since Gary Gill (1B) was chosen in the 8th round of the 1982 Draft (205th pick).
