Springfield Falls in State Finals

Springfield lost to Newark Catholic 2-1 in the State Finals.

The Tigers fell to Newark Catholic, 2-1, in the Division IV State Finals.

Springfield got on the board first when Hunter Snyder batted in Ryan Kohler in the top of the first. In the bottom half of the inning, the Green Wave had an opportunity on a sacrifice fly, but Brandon Chamberlain gunned the runner out at home to end the inning.

Newark Catholic would tie the game up in the third. With runners on base, Ryan Kohler chased a ball down in deep center field saving a run and for the second out of the inning.

In the bottom of the fourth the Green Wave scored their second run of the game giving them a 2-1 lead over the Tigers.

Springfield had an opportunity to tie the game in the top of the seventh. With the game-tying run on third, Senior Cody Pitzo popped out to end the game.

Jordan Peterson was the losing pitcher going three and two-thirds and giving up two runs.

The Tigers finish the season 21-8. They earned their fourth state runner-up trophy.
