Trial opens next week in slayings outside Pa. bar

WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) — Trial is scheduled to begin next week in the shooting deaths of two men outside a western Pennsylvania bar more than four years ago.

The (Washington) Observer-Reporter (http://bit.ly/11xgo9n ) says jury selection was completed Monday in Washington County for the criminal homicide and conspiracy trial of 24-year-old Gregory Avery Jr. of Washington, Pa.

Avery is charged in the February 2009 slayings of 23-year-old Troy Saunders Jr. and 24-year-old Marquis Taylor outside the Cabaret West bar in Washington.

A co-defendant, 29-year-old Phillip Whitlock of Washington, earlier pleaded guilty to third-degree murder, aggravated assault and criminal conspiracy. He is awaiting sentencing while cooperating with prosecutors in the case against Avery.

Police say a dispute that began with an argument over a jukebox song ultimately led to the shootings.
